Welcome to Perth
Perth, located on the pristine Swan River, is the capital city of the State of Western Australia. With a population of over 1.5 million, Perth has all the facilities expected of a thriving modern city, including art galleries, museums, parks, and shopping.
Welcome to Fremantle
The historic port of Fremantle, situated at the mouth of the Swan River, is about 17 km from the central business district (CBD) of Perth. Fremantle has a rich maritime and cultural heritage. As well as being the port for Perth and hinterland it is the home of a fishing fleet and a major tourist destination for locals and and for international visitors. Fremantle has numerous shops, cafes and restaurants and a vibrant nightlife.
Welcome to Murdoch University
Murdoch University was established in 1975 as Western Australia's second university. It is located in the suburbs of Perth, about 10 km east of Fremantle and 13 km SW of the Perth CBD. It currently has an enrolment of around 13,000 students, including about 2000 from overseas. The Murdoch University grounds are planted almost exclusively with Western Australian native species and are well worth viewing. All scientific sessions will be held at the University.
Transport to Perth
* From Overseas
Perth is well served by direct international air flights (over 150 flights per week on 10 major international airlines). In addition, if you are flying from the Americas, there are excellent connections with the other international airports on Australia's East Coast. All overseas flights to Perth arrive at the International Terminal.
* From Interstate
Perth has excellent connections to the eastern seaboard of Australia, with over 50 flights per day from all major cities.
Transport from Perth Airport to Fremantle
Perth International & Domestic Airports are located approximately 28 km from Fremantle (where participants will be staying). A shuttle service between Fremantle and the Airports operates almost 24 h per day from the both the International and Domestic terminals, the approximate cost is about AUD25 per person. Bookings are advisable and can be made online: http://www.fremantleairportshuttle.com.au Alternatively, taxis are readily available at all times from the taxi ranks immediately outside the terminals. The cost to Fremantle is about AUD55 and taxis are usually large enough to fit at least three passengers and their luggage.
Transport between Fremantle and Murdoch University
Transport by bus between Fremantle (Esplanade Hotel) and Murdoch University (where the Conference sessions will be held) will arranged by the Conference. The cost is included in the Registration Fee. Buses will leave the Esplanade Hotel at an appropriate time each morning during the Conference and return from Murdoch University after the last session. Participants who wish to travel at other times can take public transport. The “Circle Route” bus (No. 99) has a stop on South Terrace, outside the Fremantle Market, about 100 m from the Esplanade Hotel. Ask the bus driver to advise you of the Murdoch Univeristy stop (on South Street). To return to Fremantle from Murdoch University, take the Circle Route Bus No. 98 from the stop (on South Street) outside the University. This service runs about every 15 min and takes about 20 min between Fremantle/Murdoch University. The cost is about AUD2 (subject to change) each way.
Passports & Visas
Citizens of most countries with valid passports require a visa to enter Australia. However, for many countries this can be arranged online. Please visit http://www.immi.gov.au. Alternatively, please check your situation with your travel agent or the Australian embassy in your country. IUPAC sponsorship implies that entry visas will be granted to all bona fide chemists, providing application is made not less than three (3) months in advance. If a visa is not granted one (1) month before the meeting the applicant should notify the IUPAC Secretariat without delay.
Currency, Exchange, Credit Cards
Foreign currency and travelers cheques can be exchanged into Australian dollars at the Perth Airport, Esplanade Hotel or at most banks (including the bank at Murdoch University). Note that in Australia it is best to assume that all transactions will be made in Australian dollars. Automatic teller machines (ATMs) are widely available. All major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, etc) are widely accepted throughout Australia.
Health Insurance
Visitors are not in general covered by the Australian health scheme and medical expenses in Australia can be high. It is therefore highly advisable that participants arrange their own health and accident insurance. Further information can be obtained from the health authorities in your own country.
Liability
The Conference fees do not include provisions for the insurance of participants against personal injuries, sickness, theft, or property damage. This applies to any event that is part of the conference. Participants and accompanying persons are advised to arrange any insurance they consider necessary.
Electrical Appliances
The electricity supply in Perth is 240 V AC, 50 Hz Electrical appliances will require an Australian standard 3-pin plug or an appropriate adapator.

Weather
July is mid-winter in Perth but weather conditions are very mild with an average daily maximum temperature of 18 C (64 F) dropping to 8 C (44 F) overnight. Rainfall and windy conditions are common at this time of the year and you are advised to bring appropriate clothing. However, there are typically many sunny days, with an average of 6 h of sunlight per day in July and a variety of outdoor activities are feasible.
Time Zone
Perth is GMT + 8.00 h, which places Perth in the same time zone as Singapore, Hong Kong & Beijing. In mid-July sunrise is at about 0710 h and sunset at about 1735 h (5.35 pm).
Language
The official language of the conference is English. No translation facilities will be provided.
Identification
Conference registrants are required to wear their name badge to gain entry to all conference activities. This includes both the scientific sessions and the social activities.
Conference Venue
All scientific sessions will be held at Murdoch University, which is approximately 10 km from Fremantle where participants will be accommodated. Free buses will be provided each day of the conference at an appropriate time in the morning and in the afternoon to take participants between Fremantle and the University.
Those who wish to travel at other times can take the public “Circle Route” bus (see Transport between Fremantle and Murdoch University above)
Call for Papers
Contributions are sought now on any of the Conference topics. Intending participants are requested to submit abstracts in English by 31 March 2007 (now extended to 15 June 2007).
Abstracts submitted after this date cannot be guaranteed publication in the Conference Proceedings. Contributors will be notified of acceptance by 30 April 2007.
Contributions can be given orally or as posters. The selection will be made by the Scientific Committee but authors should indicate their preference for oral or poster presentation. The majority of contributions will most likely be in the form of posters.
Abstracts should be submitted in WORD format, as an e-mail attachment to the Conference Chairman: g.hefter@murdoch.edu.au by 31 March 2007 (now extended to 15 June 2007). Please use the words ‘Abstract ICSC30’ followed by the surname of the presenting author in the e-mail subject line. Also list your full name, affiliation, and contact details in the body of your e-mail message, as well as your preference for oral or poster presentation.
Official Receipt
An official receipt will be issued at Registration Desk at the Conference.
Cancellation & Refunds
Participants may withdraw their registration in writing prior to June 15, 2007. All refunds are subject to a 100 AUD administration fee. No refunds will be possible after June 15, 2007.
Letter of invitation
The Conference Chairman will be pleased to send an official letter of invitation to any participant upon request. The purpose of such an invitation to help intending participants obtain travel funds or a visa. This is NOT a commitment on the part of the conference organisers to provide any financial support.
